Elephants...bears...and dogs OH MY!!!

I don't know if it's just Mommie thoughts kicking in or what, but last night as I was laying in bed I had a random thought.... We are responsible for picking out our child's favorite stuffed animal! I mean granted it's just some fur with cotton batting inside but stuffed animals are a big deal!! I had "Pup and Stuff" which I slept with every night up until I went to college and then even in college Pup went with me. Pup was this little pink and white puppy that I received when I had my tonsils taken out, then there was Brownie which was this little brown bear which I think I got for a birthday and then Ellie the elephant which I won at a school fundraiser! These three protected me for many years from any boogie man or monster and not to mention "Rawhide and bloody bones" (which was my Great-Grand Mothers version of the boogie man! I mean what kid wouldn't be terrified of a man with no skin that kidnapped little kids! I'm think Granny may have contributed to my fear of the dark, thus the reason why I needed my Pup and Stuff in the first place!) that might be lurking in my closet or under the bed.
Now Rich on the other hand has Ralph. Ralph is probably by far the best pillow I've ever used. Ralph is this big over sized dog that him mother bought for him one Christmas (I think) Obviously he loves this animal because Ralph has been sewn together and patched so many times and his stuffing is all matted together and in clumps. I gained custody of Ralph when I was in college, most girls get to wear their boyfriends frat pin or their college ring...oh no I got Ralph (which later I found out was almost as good as getting a diamond right there on the spot.) Rich did not give up custody easily and he would come steal him back occasionally. So see, our stuffed little friends play a very important roles in our lives so now I have the same responsibility for my own child. Where do you start? How do you even begin to know what will protect your child and provide comfort? Such a difficult job...

  1. Oh my God!!!! Ralph (my husband not your pillow) has this nasty old bear called "Sundo Mundo" that he wants to give to April. This thing is 25 years old! When you hit it, dust goes flying everywhere and he wants our baby to chew on it. EWWWW

  2. Sara, my precious daughter, you forgot something important. As your mother, I did not choose your favorite stuffed animal - YOU did! You may buy this wonderful child a dozen different animals before your sweet little baby decides which one THEY like best! Never forget, children do have a sense of humor - just when we think we are in charge, they gently remind us otherwise! All my love, Mom

  3. I picked a popple...you remember popple...I mean seriously? I had a thousand stuffed animals and I picked a yellow piece of cloth that folded into a ball...I have a feeling that your baby will have an odd sense of humor and choose something ridiculous...like a hand towel or something...
